One little tidbit I found today is that in 2022 Oakland mayor election there were 810 voters who indicated a preference in subsequent rounds, but not the first round, out of 126,332 total votes cast. I imagine that ratio depends some on ballot design and the total number of people running, (Oakland had 10 people on the ballot,) but it is somewhat more than I would have imagined.
