Sorry if this has already been covered, but https://politicalwire.com/2025/01/22/jocelyn-benson-launches-bid-for-michigan-governor/ The Detroit Free Press noted that "“Michigan voters first elected Benson as Secretary of State in 2018 and then again in 2022 by a nearly 14-point margin — the biggest of any of the major statewide races that year." She should be a strong candidate for Governor if Michiganders don't have their heads up their asses and vote for a Republican again.

MI electing another female Democratic Governor back to back would be an interesting sight to see.

This would also give Governor Gretchen Whitmer freedom to chose her next path in her political career should she decide on going further with it (i.e. considering jumping in the 2028 presidential race).

I'm genuinely worried about the sexism that's going to come Whitmer's way if she decides to run for President in 2028 (like Hillary and VP Kamala encountered). Granted she doesn't have the baggage they did, but still.

I want to see the first female POTUS by 2030. It's been too damn long.

I hear you on the sexism part.

However, being that 2024 was eight years after 2016, I don't see that sexism really played a huge role in deciding the election for Trump. It may have been a bigger factor for Clinton although the one campaign ad the Harris Camp released about women voting against their own husband's interests really pissed off the conservative base and Trump supporters. It may have contributed to Trump winning.

Whitmer though has less of an ego than Clinton or Harris so she may weather the storm of attacks. Of course, it ultimately depends on her decision.
