Either way, fool's gold or not, the race is at least fairly competitive and it doesn't hurt to invest and build up infrastructure to reach out and engage voters. The goal shouldn't just be to win, but to compete and show that you have a presence and care enough to listen to voters.

I think the goal should be maximizing the chance that lightning strikes, while knowing it's a 1-2% shot. If the money is available.
