With the number of statewide GOP officials running for governor of Ohio it seems there is a great opportunity for Democrats in the state to make progress in winning these posts. With the coming backlash against Trump and his appointees and policies this may be the best prospects for a Democratic comeback in the Buckeye State in decades. This is also the time for a strong voting rights measure to be put on the ballot by citizen initiative!

And the last time Dems won the Ohio governorship it was in a backlash against Bush, that also put Sherrod Brown in the Senate. The last time before 2006 that a Dem won OH-Gov was 1986, and 1992 for OH-Sen.

We've done better there with citizen initiatives, including two votes for abortion rights in 2023 that were needed due to the GOP trying to change the rules. Ironically, despite pulling out all the stops to try and defeat it, the abortion amendment may have improved Republicans' prospects in state level races by largely removing (at least for now) one of their leading liabilities as an issue.
