If he's angry enough to resign, I'd rather he stick around for a full term. Poor attendance and being less likely to toe the line for tough votes is worth more to us than a few months of the seat being empty followed by a replacement that is probably a republican even in an environment that starts to tilt towards us.
An early retirement with resignation would be even better.
